Grosgrain Ribbon: This type of ribbon is the most common used ribbon for sewing and crafting projects. It has a ribbed texture the runs accross the ribbon. Grosgrain ribbon is great using in hairbows, backing for ribbon belts, napkin rings, etc.

There are two different kinds of Polka Dot Ribbon on the market, woven and printed. The printed ribbon is usually one sided and less durable then the Woven Polka Dot Ribbon. With the woven polka dot ribbon the polka dots are part of the ribbon and have the reverse colors on the oppisite side. Polka dot ribbon is great for make a distinct belt or emblishing clothing.

Printed ribbons have a pattern printed on the ribbon.  Usually printed ribbons are polka dots.  The polka dots on these ribbons can wear off and extra care should be taken when washing items with printed polka dots or printed patterns.

Woven ribbons have the pattern sew into the ribbon. A number of woven polka dots ribbons have hit the market this year. These ribbons are also reversible. A brown ribbon with pink polka dots will be pink with brown polka dots on the reverse. These ribbons are excellent for make belts, hairbows & bag emblishment. Since the pattern is sew in they are very durbable compared with their printed counter parts.

Jacquards have a detailed woven pattern. They usually have open treads on the back. When making bows or belts you will want to back Jacquards with a grosgrain ribbon or another Jacquard.

Satin Ribbon:  Their are two kinds of satin ribbon, single sided and double sided.  Single sided satin ribbon has smooth shiny surface one side.  The double face satin ribbon has the smooth shiny surface on both sides.
